Soccer, School, Study Hall

German and Karla (InnerCHANGE team leaders – pictured with soccer team) gathered a group of street kids to form a soccer team this fall. The boys had a fantastic time playing hard, learning to work as a team, and socializing with other boys their age in a local soccer league. Although they had a losing season, each boy came out a winner, ready to take on life and the challenges it brings.

Speaking of challenges, five of the street boys started school in January for the first time. They are enrolled at a private Christian school, where they receive individual attention and encouragement, something that is a deep yearning for these kids but is so rare, as they are used to receiving only rejection and insults on the streets. Through scholarships provided by local Guatemalan professionals as well as other donors, Jose, Juan, Sebastian, Hector and Pedro have the invaluable opportunity to study and begin to dream about their futures in a brand new way.
