Carnival

If you were in Xela today you would see hundreds of kids going to school in costumes of all kinds.  Today is Carnaval Day, a day to celebrate the libido before the Catholic Lent. In Guatemala, Carnaval is celebrated with costumes, street fairs, egg shells filled with confetti and music in the streets.

Yesterday, Genesis & Samaya painted egg shells with excitement and have the paint stained hands to prove it.  Today, we will fill the shells with confetti and cap the egg holes with crepe paper.  Since Samaya’s birthday is on Thursday, we will save the eggs for her party where people will smash them on top of one another’s heads — that’s the tradition.  Fun!!
